School Based Wellness Center
About Us
The School-Based Wellness Center is a drop-in center for students and their families located on the campus of Le Grand Union High School. It provides a safe space with universal prevention services for all.
Our Goals
- To provide an environment that is culturally sensitive, compassionate, accessible, and confidential.
- To provide effective social-emotional learning programs to help students develop healthy behaviors and lifestyle choices.
- To enhance the academic success through opportunities that help foster their interests, skills, and social connections.
We believe schools are ideal for promoting healthy development in youth. We are committed to addressing the diverse health needs of our students and fostering their social, emotional, and physical well-being to help them achieve their academic goals.
Drop In Services
Brief Intervention
Students can meet one-on-one with a trained counselor who uses the CASEL framework. Through active listening and guided reflection, the counselor helps students discuss their feelings and challenges. They focus on key skills like self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.
Together, they set achievable goals to support academic and social-emotional wellness.
Empowerment Groups
We offer voluntary support groups for all students on campus. Our groups use evidence-based curriculum. We use a strengths-based approach, motivational interviewing strategies, and provide a strong focus on positive youth development.
All student services are confidential. One of the purposes of the Wellness Center is to encourage healthy behaviors and to promote health & wellness. Establishing a trusting and supportive relationship is critical to this goal.
In order to facilitate mental wellness in school, Wellness Staff will communicate with Le Grand Union High School district staff. Relayed content will be limited to a need-to-know basis for confidentiality purposes with the intention of supporting a client’s well-being, documenting compliance with an Individual Education Plan (IEP), or facilitating a school environment conducive to learning and mental wellness.
Exceptions to confidentiality include but are not limited to: suspected child abuse, elder abuse, and dependent adult abuse; when it has been determined a client is a safety risk with the potential to physically harm themselves or others; or in the course of a legal proceeding.
